The reaction to phillips death from the other interstates of grece was to attempt to break away from Macedon power corrupting the whole of the greek empire. At this time in life Alexander was only 20 years of age therefore the rest of the greek cities thought they could overcome Alexander and the Macedonian rule from getting too powerful.
Once he had acheived the Macedonian throne, Alexander quickly executed all of the rebels by ordering their execution. But soon he would need to act outside Macedonia. Alexander acted very fast. He forced his way into Greece despite the roads leading to the country being blocked by the Thessalians. As soon as he restored Macedonian rule in all of northen Greece, he marched into the south of Greece. His speed surprised the Greeks and by the end of the summer 336 BC they had no other choice but to acknowledge and obey him or face death.
